NTU-WHU Bilateral Workshop on
“Emergent Materials for Photonics and Optoelectronics”
In the past two decades, we have witnessed tremendous progress in emergent low- dimensional and hybrid materials which have shown promising and unprecedented properties towards photonic and optoelectronic applications. The underlying physical principles are related to symmetry breaking (time-reversal or inversion symmetry, etc.), spin-orbit coupling, or quantum/dielectric confinement. A few examples of those materials are two-dimensional layered semiconductors exhibiting unique valley polarizations, emergent high optical gain hybrid perovskite materials for solar cells, light-emitting diodes and single photon sources, layered semiconductor or metallic compounds that exhibit unique ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic properties in few- layer regime. With further coupling of those materials to plasmonic nanostructures or microcavity designs, one has additional knobs to engineer the light-matter interactions towards augmented properties in photonics and optoelectronics. This NTU-WHU bilateral workshop, we have invited quite a few internationally well-established experts at different career stages from both parties to discuss the recent progress, and brainstorm the future directions. We hope that this workshop will further stimulate the interactions and collaborations between Wuhan University and Nanyang Technological University.
